Azucena is born of dialogue between the producer, architect, artisans and clients. Its origins date back to 1947, when a group of young Milanese architects - Luigi Caccia Diminioni, Corrado Corradi Dell'Acqua, Ignazio Gardella, Maria Teresa and Franca Tosi - decided to manufacture their own furniture in order to compile a catalogue of furnishing items (for everything from sofas to tables, door handles, and doorstops) for the houses they were designing. The name Azucena(borrowed from the gypsy in Il Trovatore whois torn between motherly and daughterly love) encapsulates this legendary Milanese company's design philosophy. Azucena is a startling synthesis of rational mass production and refined craftsmanship.
