Design BassamFellows, 2014

Designing it with a fully upholstered frame and no visible legs, BassamFellows intended Bevel to provide a simple backdrop—an anchor with a timeless aesthetic that coordinates with modern classics from Herman Miller.

The inviting, versatile series performs as an elegant building block suited for small and large spaces. Models include sofa, settee, and club chair. Additional pieces—a chaise, corner unit, single seat, settees that curve inside and outside, and ottomans in both square and round dimensions—can be grouped to form expansive seating areas. Available in a selection of textiles and leather options, Bevel has a tailored look and compact, human-scaled dimensions that readily cross over between residential and commercial interiors.

BassamFellows

Architect/designer Craig Bassam and brand strategist/creative director Scott Fellows joined forces in 2003 to form BassamFellows. Following successful solo ventures and with a shared vision in mind—to return true craftsmanship and beauty to contemporary living—the duo quickly got noticed.

Raised in New York and armed with a Harvard MBA, Fellows honed his branding skills working with international powerhouses including Corning Housewares, Bally, and Ferragamo. Bassam, who grew up in Sydney, was such a devotee of modernism that he moved to New Canaan, Connecticut, where many of mid-century architecture’s greats had lived and practiced. He began his own design studio there in 1997.

herman miller

Herman Miller was a West Michigan businessman who helped his son-in-law, D.J. De Pree, buy the Michigan Star Furniture Company in 1923. De Pree had been working at the company, which opened in 1905, since he was hired in 1909 as a clerk. De Pree knew his father-in-law was a man of integrity, so he decided to rename the company after him. By the middle of the 20th century, the name Herman Miller had become synonymous with “modern” furniture. Working with legendary designers George Nelson and Charles and Ray Eames, the company produced pieces that would become classics of industrial design.
