Alberto Meda, was born in 1945 in Tremezzina, Italy. He studied Mechanical Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Milan. In the period 1972-1979 he was technical director of Kartell, and later worked as an independent designer for companies such as Alias, Alessi, Cinelli, Colombo Design, Ideal Standard, Luceplan, Legrand, Mandarina Duck, Omron Japan, Philips, Olivetti and Vitra. Between 1981 and 1985 he was also project advisor for Alfa Romeo and from 1983 to 1987 he taught industrial technology at the Domus Academy in Milan. He joined the Polytechnic University of Milan as a teacher in 1995 and also became a member of the Board of Directors of Designlabor Bremerhaven. Since 2003 he teaches at the IUAV University of Venice and gives lectures in places like Chicago, St. Louis (University of Washington), Stockholm, Boisbuchet (workshops of the Vitra Design Museum), Miami, São Paulo, Ulm, Istanbul or Toronto.
Alberto Meda has been collaborating with Vitra since 1994. During this time, his elegant designs of office chairs and different tables have contributed significantly to the success of the Vitra Office Collection.
