Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec have created Workbays as an organic system which redefines the working environment and breaks up the rigid planning grid of regular offices. Workbays give employees the freedom to retreat to the environment that best suits the type of work they are doing. The units can spontaneously serve as telephone booths, video conference rooms, reading corners, quiet spots for a coffee break or meeting rooms – without sending participants behind closed doors.

Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec (b. 1971 and 1976) are a team of two brothers from the Brittany region in Northwest France. They began working together in 1999 and maintain a constant collaborative dialogue that incorporates each personality, and strikes a balance within their mutual quest for diligence and fineness. The brothers work with numerous manufacturers, such as Vitra and Cappellini. Their partnership with Vitra in 2002 has brought about perhaps their most prolific line of work, including the Joyn office system, and notable pieces like the Algues, the Alcove Sofa, the Worknest, the Slow Chair, the Vegetal and L’Oiseau. The brothers Bouroullec continue their vegetation-inspired work of natural and organic shapes and are recognized with various awards, in permanent collections, and in exhibitions all over the world.
Vitra is a Swiss company dedicated to improving the quality of homes, offices and public spaces through the power of design. Following in the tradition of Charles & Ray Eames, who have influenced Vitra’s approach to sustainability in many ways, product longevity is central to the company’s contribution to sustainable development; short-lived styling is avoided at all costs. This can be seen most clearly in the classical pieces of furniture that have been used for decades, had several owners and have then even ended up as a part of a collection.
