Having previously trained as a butcher and a joiner,Michal Bihain studied interior design at the Institut Saint-Luc in Liège. In 1998, he used the colleges newly-created design studio to produce his first prototypes.Michal Bihain then worked with the French furniture manufacturer Chizat to develop a range of furniture for IT users, for which he was awarded the Aide Prize for Innovation in Design. This led to a commission to design the furniture for the British Council offices in Paris.He returned to Belgium in 2000,and expanded his design business to include interiors for public-sector organisations and private individuals, handbags and trophies. His collaboration with MMA in London led to the creation of the“BIHAINprod”design studio where he researches and designs one-off pieces for his clients,who include the British sculptor Henry Moore's daughter,the cigarette manufacturer Benson & Hedges and Ziyad Mahmoud.
